PDF Personalization

BACKCLICK makes it possible to send out personalized PDF documents. These are sent as attachments to your campaign documents, and may be password protected (optional). You can send documents, invoices, certificates, coupons, filled-out registration forms, or personalized orders. These may not be altered, which ensures that only the intended recipient may use their personalized digital copies of these documents for paid services.

How do I send out personalized PDF documents?

All you need is a template in the PDF format, which is provided with BACKCLICK. Detailed information about personalized PDF documents can be found in Chapter “Personalize PDF Documents”. While sending the newsletter, BACKCLICK will ensure that the correct personalized PDF documents are automatically sent to the right e-mail address and recipient.

Select template and set options

If you purchased the BACKCLICK PDF module, an additional option block appears along with the letter that accompanies a newsletter. This block may be found under the petition possibility for the dispatch rate specification. If you cannot see this block, there may be three possible causes: You have not purchased the necessary PDF module; the module is not installed correctly; or else the module has not been installed on your server as yet. If you do not see the block, contact your administrator.

To add a personalized PDF document as an attachment to a newsletter campaign, activate the check box “activate PDF Personalization.” BACKCLICK will produce an individual PDF file for every subscriber while sending out the newsletter. This PDF file is then automatically assigned to the corresponding e-mail address, and will be sent with the next mailing to that address. In some cases, you will need to protect this personalized PDF file from unauthorized access.

BACKCLICK offers password protection for the PDF file, by assigning it the password of the subscriber. The PASSWORD field is enclosed as a standard field in the database designer, and may be viewed in the delivery status of BACKCLICK. This field cannot be deleted. If you do not define the PASSWORD field as a mandatory field for registration, it may be left empty by some subscribers. In this case, BACKCLICK will assign the e-mail address as a password for the protection of the PDF file.

Personalization of a PDF document is carried out with the help of a template, in which you have previously fixed the position, script, type size, etc., of the personalization fields. How to do the settings and define the template are described in Chapter “Personalize PDF Documents.” The templates you created previously are provided to you in a select box, where you will choose the desired template. You can select only ONE personalized PDF document at a time.

BACKCLICK lets you define the following protection characteristics for the safety and content of any attached documents in PDF form:

  • Not changeable
  • No copying of text/graphics
  • No extracting of text/graphics
  • No modification of the page
  • Not printable
  • Not printable (HiRes)

To activate the restrictions you want, select the check box with the corresponding feature. You can also define the author and title for this document or attachment. Enter the desired information here.

After you have filled in the required fields for PDF Personalization, you will need to choose a file name for the PDF document. This name appears as the attachment file name when the recipient opens the e-mail. You can personalize the file name as (for example): “Certificate for Jack Smith from Boston.pdf.” To personalize the file name as in the example, enter the following into the file-name field:

Certificate for $$FIRSTNAME$$ $$LASTNAME$$ from $$CITY$$.pdf

The fields for personalization must agree with those that are used to write the newsletter text. The details on the security features, the author, the title, and the file name are OPTIONAL! If you do not enter any file name here, the name of the sample file is chosen as the attachment’s name. If all of the entries have been made, BACKCLICK can create a personalized PDF document, and send it out to the corresponding subscriber (e-mail address).

Preview

BACKCLICK also offers a preview of the personalized PDF documents. You should use this preview every time you create a newsletter with PDF personalization. The result displayed there must agree 100% with the file that will be delivered to the recipient. To see the PDF preview, open the usual preview window. Then, click on the preview window for the HTML/text newsletter, above on the left, on the Preview symbol beside the “PDF” symbol. This will open a separate window in which the PDF document is shown. The document is prepared and distributed at the preview in real time. The file name of the PDF file is shown as the title of the preview page.
